A useful tool which I am having success with and is good value for money.

Am replacing all brake lines with copper pipe on 1950's Triumph car now 50% complete. Tool appears to be able to create accurate flares but it needs to be used with care and set-up accurately which is fair enough. Worth watching U tube videos! Joints not yet tested under pressure. I am using 3/16" die and have ordered replacement part 82702 (just in case needed) which is listed for kit 37870 rather than 51762 however on visual inspection, it appears more or less identical. Replacement dies for 51762 do not appear to be listed.

  • Most critical review

    Do not buy this.

Having carefully followed the instructions, as well as many instructional videos online, I practiced on some scrap pipework before attempting work on my car. It didn't make it two days before a wingnut thread stripped, and I couldn't successfully make repeatable quality flares. This tool is a waste of time and money, now I'll spend a bit more and get the job done properly.

  • Does the job

Purchased to fix brake line on a car that had failed. Flared replacement copper pipe section and existing vehicle pipe with ease. It's a bit fiddly as the arch is a separate piece where a more expensive tool is all in one but it worked well. Shame there is no pipe cutter in the box as there is a space for one. Overall a good piece of kit.

  • Bad design with spreader tool end

I had an issue with the chrome spreader,it was very loose and floppy from the start on the screw, when doing a flare it wasn't square and true it made the job very difficult,I'm trying to get this resolved but as yet NO luck, the rest of the kit was good quality.I purchace Draper tools most times but this is only worth a 3 due to that fault.

  • Does what it says on the tin

Just done around a dozen flares with it now and they were all good. Cone and bits are nicely hardened so no wear marks. A bit of slop in the clamp like you see on some more expensive ones (snapon), so you just need to keep an eye on the thing staying centered. Overall good quality for the money, as I have come to expect from Draper over the years.

  • Can't fault quality

Bought one of the cheaper ones, which couldn't double flare. So bought this because of the maker. This kit is alot better quality than the cheaper one.cant say anymore. Pay the little bit extra and get a lot more in quality, this will last I have make lots of brake pipes since purchasing and it's still in as new condition.

  • Brake Flare Tool

This is a good one. It is not Snap On quality but it is made of decent steel. It is Draper and they make tools for the trade so it is good. I have seen other generic branded ones and they are cheap and nasty material and will fail. Whereas this Draper one is solid and works well. The instructions on the inside of the lid are not the smartest instructions and made no sense to me. There are instruction videos on the internet so no real worry. I had to have a few goes practise but I got there and I made my pipe and it looks fine and works.
