Excellent value
The EG 27” 1440p 144hz monitor is, without question, amazing value for money. At £280 (at the time of writing), you’re getting a well designed and well built high resolution and refresh rate display, perfect for gaming.
The monitor looks modern and sleek; I personally love the design. Its rather thin, giving it that minimalist feel. The onboard menu UI is relatively competent also.
My only gripes with the monitor would be the poor IO integration, with the HDMI and Display Port inputs being prone to losing picture if the cables are dislodged slightly or the monitor is moved quickly. The input 99% of the time is fine, with no issues, but an accidental knock of the desk it is on may cause a temporary blackout.
Furthermore, the brighter colours and whites on the monitor appear to be rather grainy. Im unsure why, but it may be down to uncalibrated pixel brightness from the factory. Its nothing major, but is certainly noticeable in those bright scenarios.
Speaking of brightness, the screen doesn’t get very bright in general, with (what feels like) perhaps a 300nit peak brightness making dark scenes hard to see detail in unless you’re in a dark room (at which point the darkness helps).
With that aside, for a very reasonable price, you’re getting the sharpness bump over standard 1080p HD, a buttery smooth 144hz refresh rate and a well built, good looking monitor. I absolutely recommend, especially if you are on somewhat of a budget.
