I really like my new H4a & H4 EMG combination. These pickups sound clear and detailed. The H4a takes a little getting used to. I'm not big on bridge pickup usage and the H4a is no exception. But, the deep tone and sound of the low E, is what I've always been looking for. I get a bassy E string without too much bass. Its easy to adjust the level on pedals or amps. I tried using an Behringer EQ at one point. But, the hiss was just too much. This was before I bought the EMG's. Also, I have my H4a pickup set pretty high up so, that can make a difference. I thought about using 2 H4's but, I want the deep tone of the E string. And the sustain Wow! I use a compressor and I had to turn down the sustain. These pickups create a pure pleasant metal power mad sound that any metal head would love.

The quality of American-made EMG pickups is excellent, and the "Plug and Play' electronics really simplify the wiring. I have used both their active and passive pickups and can recommend both for sound, function and quality.
