I've used an older model Emerson wifi thermostat for years, but decided on this one due to the extra sensors for other rooms. When it's winter, our bedrooms can be 10 degrees cooler than the hallway with all the doors open. The only trouble I had was getting the unit to not average sensor temperatures when manually changing the temperature. The solution was just to turn off the hallway sensor on the unit itself for all "comfort settings". Since then, it's been a breeze. We use Amazon's Alexa with the unit and all the features, for example, saying "good morning, Alexa" and it'll play Pandora, change the temp, and trigger home lighting. It has a great speaker. The Alexa services aren't as full featured as some Alexa units, so it's not an actual replacement but does a lot right. The intercom feature is pretty slick. It has much more than Apple's Siri. We are mostly an Apply household. But since so many more home automation units aren't paying for that service license, plus, any that have it are above our interest threshold, this unit just opened our world up. I'm a big fan!Read full review

I purchased the Ecobee3 Lite to replace my existing Honeywell primarily for its ability to receive signals from remote sensors, two of which I purchased separately ($60) and located in two bedrooms that were often too cold in the winter. Even though the thermostat is only able to average all of the rooms, I noticed an improvement in temp uniformity around the house. I very much like the modern physical design of the unit and appreciate inclusion of the large mounting plate to hide the wall marks from my old t'stat. It wasn't quite large enough to cover the marks completely, so a little paint touch up is needed. Installation was pretty straightforward by following the included printed instructions that were well designed, and I'm pretty handy so it was no stretch. I did end up contacting tech support for help with wiring the included Power Extender Kit to my furnace (I was missing the common wire, so the PEK is needed at the furnace connection). They were pretty helpful after I was able to send them photos of my terminal connections. After that, installation and set-up was a breeze, mostly. I was able to add the Ecobee app to my smartphone and my laptop to monitor and control the thermostat, and that's very cool and convenient. It's still a little confusing setting up the control schedule and "Comfort Settings", which is confusing with the "Occupied" and "Unoccupied" settings, but I'll get the hang of it. The default furnace settings and schedule were a good start. I chose the Ecobee3 over the 4 because I didn't want the Alexa interface and all that comes with it, and I'm quite satisfied with its operation.Read full review

I like that the thermostat recognizes when you walk up to it. I also like that you can check the weather with one touch.
