  • A highly-recommended read, especially as most of the original transmission has been wiped!

It's a novelisation of one of the best DOCTOR WHO stories - the first ever to be repeated on the BBC. One of the strengths of the book is the way the characters, especially the Waterfields, the Maxtibles, Kemal and Mollie Dawson stand out as individuals. The ending is especially poignant and far-reaching. The death of Edward Waterfield at the hands of the Daleks leaves his daughter Victoria an orphan and leads to her joining the Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon aboard the TARDIS. This was the springboard to arguably the best-ever DOCTOR WHO season, 1967-8. This season became known as the 'Year of the Monsters' - Cybermen, Yeti, Ice Warriors et al.
