Condition:
Very important component! On this pinion the oil pump belt runs at the top of the crankshaft (behind the variomatic), while in water-cooled engines it simultaneously drives the water pump in the engine block via the belt. Often the gearing of the pinion wears off (also possible to break the pinion!) and it may happen that the water pump shaft is no longer rotated! Consequence: Capital engine damage due to overheating! In such a case, the oil pump is no longer driven. When changing the oil pump belt, always replace both sprockets! Should not be forgotten at any inspection.
