    Unfortunately some critical dimensions were off by 1 or 2 mls. Managed to file the excess material away. This then allowed the lock barrel to pass through the gearbox allowing the lock to operate correctly.

I had no problems doing this because the detailed dimensions in the eBay posting tied up exactly with the dimensions of my 30 year old failed lock gear case, so the switch over was smooth. What was initially a bit daunting turned into a doddle really for this DIYer, so thanks !

    Amazed

    After I had ordered this gear box I was warned by my brother, (a keen DIY man), that he had ordered a similar thing (not this exact item) for his father-in-law in the past, and had to pay professional door fitters to install it. It had taken half a day for them to do a satisfactory job. When this new gear box arrived I was amazed how easy it was to change the existing broken one and replace it. I had no difficulty changing the old with the new, after having watched YouTube videos on what to do. The whole operation took less than 30 minutes, and I am 72 years old with restricted vision. I have no hesitation in recommending this gear box for its quality and value for money.

    Beware of all dimensions.

    I purchased the item, the drawings provided are very good and clear, when fitted it looked like a straight swap great! However on my lock the actual hammer part of the lock (the moving bit) is fatter then the old one and had to grind the housing wider to accommodate. the one dimension not shown. Shame as other wise a direct fit.

    Unique size and good value

    The overall reliability is not guaranteed but this is the only supplier I know of and the unit price is very good value. They are unique in having an unusual back set dimension required to fit my doors. I have had several over the years all failing in the same weak spot. These were bought as spares because I know one of my locks is showing signs of failing and I want to be prepared.

    Great gearbox locking mechanism as New again.

    Ideal replacement for the one i had, there was nothing wrong with the rollers and the key cylinder was working fine, that left the gearbox, it was broken, it's only three screws to change really simple job, put it back in the door and the locking mechanism is like new again, I always use a bit of grease, keeps the mechanism moving freely, lasts longer, the last one lasted over 20 years, so really pleased at £10.99 it could have cost a lot more, it's easy to do this job yourself.

    UPVC Door lock

    This door lock got me out of a jam. It came in a very quick time and was perfect for the job. If you get the right measurements for your lock it will be a perfect replacement . The metal used in this lock seem as good if not better than the the one that came with the door when new.
