Genuine Ford replacement part
I used tweezers to remove the wings from the old insert from the gear knob, and then this new part clicked easily into place.

You get what you pay for!
Bought this because the chrome was flaking off the original gear knob insert and collar. When it arrived, the insert fell off (attached only by hot glue to a smooth surface - not great). However, it was worth it only as a source of a spare collar which can't be got elsewhere. Bought a Ford original insert and made good the original gear knob by cannibalising the two.
