An exactly correct switch and knob for our 15 year old Neff cooker. Having looked at YouTube it took 10 seconds to pull the old knob off and withdraw the switch from the cooker. When the new one arrived, it slid into place immediately, dead easy. Last time this went wrong years ago it cost me £120 for a callout. Go figure! PS the knob had deteriorated and was not gripping the switch. Maybe we could've got away with just a new knob?

Genuine part, thanks. Simple to replace old one by removing the toggle and gently pulling the core out with pliers. New one just pushes in, align carefully!

Neff should make less knobs metal so not needed to replace, plus just the knob broke yet had to replace all, necessitating removal of oven casing. Not best design by manufacturer. The above said all went in fine after some fiddling and lack of instructions didn't help. Working fine now.

    Perfect drop-in replacement

It's a knob, how much can you write about it? Anyway, it works perfectly and the design has obviously been updated so that the silver knob part won't crack as easily now which is why I was replacing it in the first place. To replace the item, remove the silver knob by pulling fairly hard(unless it is cracked and then it should be easy). Remove the black oval piece behind it with your fingers or a toothpick etc and you should be left with a white piece of plastic sticking out. Grab some pliers and pull the rest of the unit out (it may take some force but don't worry). After that, just take the new one and push the whole thing in. I might buy two more to replace the other two knobs because I can see them starting to crack as well.

Disappointed to have to Replace Whole Unit

Disappointed to have to buy a complete unit rather than just the knob - which broke. Neff do not make a replacement knob so you have to buy the whoole unit. I used pliers to grip the shaft of the broken unit and simply pulled it out. The replacement just has to be lined up and pushed into place, so fitting is easy but don't expect Neff to offer any advice.. The e-bay supplier (Bartyspares) was great and I highly recommend them.

  • 👍

Came quickly, easy to fit...just pulled the old one out with pliers after turning power off and pushing new one in. Reset clock and hey presto. Seemed quite a lot seeing as we only wanted a new knob, but a larger component and best price we could find

  • Great Product

Remove old switch, using pliers, gently pull out old switch To replace new switch, line up then push the switch inwards until the switch sits entirely flush It took me approx 5 mins to get out old switch, replacing it with new switch

  • Works well as replacement for 173204

Thanks to those reviewers who described how to remove the old switch - massively helpful! Our switch melted when we were using our parents' oven and didn't realise we had to close the oven door when grilling. Incidentally, this is a quite astonishingly poor design, which unfortunately seems to be quite a characteristic of Neff appliances. One thing to note - our U1661N1GB/09 oven theoretically required a 173204 switch, but this 188840 worked fine and seems generally rather cheaper than the 173204. They aren't identical, but the main difference is that the fulcrum point for the 188840 is dead-centre while the 173204 is slightly below centre. This means that you can't just swap over the silver knob, you have to change the whole switch mechanism, as sold here. Despite the difference the ...
