As a novice woodturner and having tried sharpening gouges freehand, I decided I needed a jig. Plenty of options out there, but most are expensive. This looked simple and straightforward to use and comes recommended by a well known professional. Having used it now for a couple of weeks I would say this a superb jig and makes sharpening bowl gouges etc a doddle. It's easy to get a nice smooth bevel and allows you to regrind any profile you fancy. I also went for the adjustable tool rest which is very sturdy and replaces the next to useless standard tool rests that come with most bench grinders. One small criticism is the angle needs adjusting with a spanner. Would be nice to have a thumb wheel like those used on the rest of the jig.

The jig is well-made and well-finished. After the first use, the protective painting does become a little scratched, but I expected that to be the case anyway; I intend the tool to be used, not to stand in the workshop looking pretty! The set-up guidance is pretty easy to follow and worth reading throughout a couple of times beforehand to ensure your measurements are right. I tried it in a small spindle gouge to begin with and go so carried away with the sharpness and the new grind that I ended up making a small pot on the first run. This is a great alternative to the ridiculously expensive grinding systems. This is honest, does the job, minimum fuss.

looked at purchasing this jig but so expensive held me back. Then spotted this chap on eBay at affordable price got it & the fingerprint too. wasn't expecting such quality at this price excellent. its well worth getting for lathe tools. I also had a go on a flat chisel, was able to find the angle easy, My stone is only 2" wide is up-to 2" chisels only.

Well made, strong materials used, easy to set up ( if you follow the instructions ) and easy to use. I would recommend that you watch the video and to practice the sharpening techniques with an old gouge before sharpening your best gouge.

Very well made from a quality steel, easy to install with your grinder, practice with it a few times with an old tool then put a very sharp edge on the gouges you use, makes a massive difference to the quality of the piece you are turning and will give you more confidence, all of this for a very good value for money price.
