I found that the slight blemishes on existing steel pipe were smoothed out best by forming the 2-stage returned flare rather than just the bubble. A useful feature is the test hole in one of the parts to check the finished flare.

This is a British made top quality tool at a great price. The cheap Chinese made versions look the same but they are not and do NOT work on steel, the tolerances are all over the place- ask me how I know!
