I chose these because they appeared to be just right for my Hornby model railway. And indeed they are just perfect! All correctly wired with the right coloured wires. The correct gauge of wires and useful lengths which can be trimmed as required. Good quality items at excellent prices.

Budget sound but expect to change speaker and play around with CV settings for fair running and sound quality if used on a Bachmann Class 37. Aux (cab lights) is only on function 25 which is out of range for most Dcc controllers and cannot be moved.

I have hardwired two locos previously without using a harness but for my third, I thought I would try using a harness. I found the wires a good length on the harness making it ideal for any size loco. I trimmed the wires to fit before soldering. The decoder fitted was a Gaugemaster and it fitted perfectly into the 8 pin socket. I will certainly purchase more of these if I hard wire anymore locos.

This Hornby sound decoder is a realistic alternative to the more expensive well known sound decoders. I have used one in a class 67 which sounds good to me and I have another to fit into a class 37 but I have acquired a more bass sounding speaker to replace the one supplied, to give a more deep throaty sound.

Very loud when you first switch to sound, disappointed with packaging it's a don't care sort of arrangement, plastic bag/ cardboard box? Okay so for some its too cheap to bother with, but I have to say it does bring the locomotive to life and you get smoother running. Will it last! who can say the last I had lasted about 2yrs. Oh dear?
