Hugh never fails to entertain... more than just a chef he takes you on a journey to make you more conscious of the food you eat, sustainable dishes, aiming at MAXIMUM TASTE and building our connection back with our plate! HE is a super hero in my eyes... and in this series he ramps up his canteen into resaurant and 44 Acres of farming land! Loved this so much I have since bought other River Cottage series!

I was delighted to purchase my third River Cottage dvd, brand new through ebay as even with post & packaging it knocked about £7 what I'd pay for it in the local shops, I also didn't have to worry about queuing and taking time out to get it as within minutes it was ordered and two days later received. I've been following Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall as he exchanged urban living for the good life of self-sufficiency down in Dorset. Over the years he has progressed from an acre plot in his back garden to a small holding and now with this dvd he embarks on the challenges of a 40 + acres of land and cattle to boot. I admire Hugh's ethos of making the most of what we have on our doorstep and it's a way of life we should all try to endorse, this dvd helps show you how.
Any fan of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall will surely enjoy the adventures of our intrepid downsizer as he sets about creating the first River Cottage HQ. Although varying slightly in format to the rest of the "River Cottage" series - Hugh is not looking after everything himself - the intriguing projects and tasty food remains compelling viewing. As ever, the focus is on producing the finest foods from local sources and the many twists and turns along the way - Hugh para-gliding in search of mushrooms and providing the legendary 10 bird roast are just two of the highlights. It's also nice to see the progression that Hugh has made over the course of his "downsizing experiment" - from one-man small-holder, to the proud owner of 44 acres and lots of wildstock. His presenting style is still highly entertaining and the recipes and ideas he comes up with are both inspiring and appealing. A three-disc set with a couple of nice extra features make this a must have for fans of this series.Read full review
Beyond the river cottage reminds me of my life as a young lad. I lived by the river in a small village in the 1950,s and we used eat the type of food thats on the DVD.In that time we used to make all our own Cristmas decorations and we lived off the land. It was the best days of my life.Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall takes me back every time i view his DVD,s,thats wy i rate it as EXCELLENT. Andy Osciak
