The advertising for this unit states that it's ready for use "out of the box". The reality is that it has just three channels programmed, with an expensive cable and software needed to get the full 16 channels. The listing was ambiguous about this, but has been changed after my complaint. I have used two of the available channels to talk to a fellow radio amateur on PMR analogue; the report was not good, though I could hear him okay. I have not found anyone using digital PMR to test it, but managed to get a response from my own Baofeng DMR. The Unit is well constructed, but needs to be sold with it's full 16 channel quota. I would guess that these are aimed at the non-technical like CB is. Some will find that having to programme a DMR radio maybe a daunting prospect that they can do without.Read full review

Bought 2 of these to replace basic pmr 446 handhelds used on our narrowboating trips. You need good qualitu communications, especially when using lock flights or at busy times when shouting or handsignals are difgicult. These licence free handsets are digital & analog capable, so can integrate with existing pmr radios Very high build quallity, coupled with good range & clear audio make them an ideal step up to semi pro equipment. Long battery life & charge with your phone charger, via micro usb. Customise the settings with the free softwsre, although the programming cable is an expensive extra. Highly reccomend Radioswap as the seller, their aftetsales service is exceptional.
