I am upgrading some old LGA1366 socket servers I just got back from a customer's upgrade and wanted to use them in-house. These CPUs are actually still very fast by today's standards and much much faster than the 1st gen i7 CPUs that were in these servers. Simple swap. They can also access much more RAM. The original i7 could only "see" 24GB which is a bit limiting today. With these CPUs I can use 64GB or more if your motherboard can manage more.

cheap alternative to the 5690 cpu and only slightly and hardly notice any difference in speed if you are upgrading you mac pro and have the option to fit 2 in the duel cpu tray get these just make sure that are a matching pair dont get 2 single chips from different places they must match. older 2009 will need the de lidded cpu`s the 2010-12`s can just be replaced really easy.

It's hard to believe how much these cost when they first came out. This particular version is the fastest processor that my motherboard will take, but has effectively doubled the performance of the original processor. I'm a great believer in upgrading where possible, so this will give my old Workstation a few more years of useful life.

The CPUs were for a 2010 Mac Pro 5.1 which is my 'workhorse' computer. Going from a 12 core 266 to a 12 core 330 shows a dramatic increase in speed. If you are going to do this upgrasde make sure you get an app to control rthe cooling fans, or they will be on flat out, which is very noisy!!
