  • The best there is.

Like most things you get what you pay for, and many people avoid DD-X because compared to other developers it seems expensive. However, there are recipes for 1:9 ratio's online, which do work well, and if you develop and re-use it straight away on the same day it's fine, just chuck it within 24 hrs. But, that's not why you should try it, you should try it because it's pretty much the best there is, it works well with every film I've used it on, and it's speed enhancing so you can shoot box speed or push with it to your heart's content. It won't give you the sharpness of rodinal, but it will give you excellent highlights and shadows and decent sharpness. It's designed for giving you the best negatives for printing, and it excels at this. I rarely use anything else, because it's so consistent and you can't really go wrong with it. Lastly, it's made by Ilford, who I strongly believe in supporting if you want black and white film, papers and chemicals to keep being produced, and obviously they're British. If you've never used it you're in for treat, this really is the most versatile developer out there, it's worth every penny it costs.
