This is a classic dark comedy that is gripping from the outset. Dennis Price stars and delivers an eloquent and highly credible role as a wronged man. Alec Guinness is famed for playing nine separate characters, all D'Ascoyne family members in the line of succession to the title that Dennis Price so covets. The leading ladies: (Valerie Hobson and Joan Greenwood) are superb studies in the Edwardian attitudes prevalent when the film is set. I am amazed I had not seen the film before, as I had assumed that it was something I had watched many years ago, Tom discover it for myself and enjoy it recently was a great surprise. Highly recommended.
