All gimic and no actual use.
I bought this expecting some basic google functions, weather, news, music and obviously a clock.
It's the most basic piece of expensive kit.
You have a choice of clock faces, most of them you'd struggle to tell the time if you were half asleep in the night, they are just too abstract. You can choose a photo from your google photos if you set an album for this and your chromecast screensaver.
If you pull the screen up you can control brightness, volume, do not disturb and system settings, this includes clock face, display setting which are low light setting and minimum brightness, also network and about this device. Too basic!
If you pull the screen down you have alarms, nap time which is a timer, play music and bedroom lights on/off if like me you have smart lights.
Swipe right you see weather, again very basic a screen showing current temp, high and low comfort the day and you can press for basic voice weather report for the day. There is also spotify and your calendar.
For the alarm you have the choice of tones on the system, think the ring tones on your very first phone. You cant add your own, there are six and one that is a piano piece that changes every day. Theres the basic repeat settings, a sunrise that brightens 30 mins before the alarm goes off and finally the food morning routine which is weather, news, commute and schedule. I cant remember how but it then plays a radio station for me. I did read you can ask it to play a song on spotify for an alarm. Day google set music alarm.
So basically this is a Google mini with a clock face. The sound is ok for music if you have spotify. I paid less than half price which is maybe the price currently for a google mini and a basic alarm clock.
Is this smart? About as smart as a toddler.
This could have been great, the screen could have more features, read text messages or alerts from phone showing when you wake.
Whilst trying to take photos I went on the weather screen and cant get it off. You have to wait for screen to change as most have none cancel or back options.
If you want assistant in your bedroom then this will do. If you want an alarm clock, use your phone as the alarm tones are useless.
Update. The alarm chooses whether to work, sometimes it does, sometime I have record of setting the alarm on google assistant yet it's not there and worse still sometimes the screen shows the alarm and there is no sound. Lenovo have been horrendous. They told me to turn up the volume like anybody is thick enough not to try that. I will never buy lenovo again as I have an alarm clock that even after a master reset decided each day whether to play the alarm, even one set for every day can work ine day but not the next.
