The whole point of buying the Chromebook was to have a cheap but powerful laptop running Linux (Mint) rather than ChromeOS (which is very restrictive). It has issues. Internal eMMC is only 32GB which is tiny (but you can put a 256GB MicroSD card in the internal slot) but it has 4GB RAM and the internal CPU/GPU is excellent. Sound card is not supported by any Linux drivers (external to Google although clearly they wrote their own and did not distribute it). USB external speakers or tiny USB dongle sound card solves that. The process involves making up a special Suzy-Q cable to replace the ChromeOS only version of Coreboot with a Coreboot/UEFI which will boot pretty much anything (see MrChromeBox). After that it's a a very sweet normal laptop (with a slightly strange keyboard). The GPU is fully supported untder Linux and you can play (lightweight) 3D games. Display is 1080p. With a bit of hacking, it works very well as a Linux laptop. I built this for a friend. I would buy another and do this again. Shame they don't sell these preinstalled with a fully functional Linux.distribution instead of ChromeOS.Read full review
