Great mouse and works really well and with no need to change batteries it save a lot of hassle. Easy to use and scroll wheels very useful. Would recommend

The MX1000 was marketed as the world's first laser mouse when it was released (and indeed it still is). Back then it was the pinnacle of mouse technology but has since been superseded by Logitech's MX Revolution. But this is about the MX1000. A few months after it was released I bought one as a replacement for the one I got with my Advent PC which had been absolutely horrible to use. Truth be told, I didn't really notice any difference in "precision" between the two so I can't actually make any comments about the benefit of laser technology in a mouse. However, that may be something to do with my 15" TFT monitor and a general lack of gaming that would require such accuracy. Despite that, other companies have since embraced laser technology over the old optical system so I guess there probably is some benefit. Elsewhere, the mouse is a bit of a heavyweight when it comes to mice and the charging dock/receiver is fairly large as well so I wouldn't recommend it for use on the move. However, that's not to say it's a bad mouse. Far from it in fact. As a mouse on a desktop system (or with a desktop replacement notebook) it's superb. The shape of the mouse makes it very comfortable to hold and fits most hands in a really natural position. However, the same ergonomic design that makes it excellent for right-handed users makes the mouse about as comfortable as falling down the stairs for left-handers to use. The chunkiness and weight actually helps to make the mouse feel reassuringly solid rather than cheap and flimsy like some generic mice (like my previous one) though. The mouse features a lot of buttons which have some pretty useful preprogrammed functions such as forwards and backwards navigation. However, they can be programmed, if you so choose to, using the "Logitech Setpoint" program which comes on the software CD but can be easily downloaded from the Logitech website anyway. The mouse wheel rotates solidly and there are also quick scroll buttons above and below the wheel for navigating long documents which is really handy for reading long articles, IM conversations and so on. The mouse wheel also can be moved left or right which means you can scroll across two planes which is great for those occasional badly sized websites. Final comment... the battery on the colossus lasts a fair while on a charge. I tend to forget to recharge batteries but I've managed to get over a week of fairly heavy use out of a single charge. What I'd call "heavy use" is obviously not going to be the same as what everyone else would say but it won't need to be constantly charging. I said the MX1000 was superseded by the MX Revolution earlier but that's not to say it's obsolete. The MX1000 is still an outstanding mouse in its own respect and is great choice for a righties regardless(handedness... not politics).Read full review
This mouse is great - until the new gen mice have started coming out this was by far the best. Very Sensitive, comfortable, well designed, precise, ergonomic, full of functionality and an apparently everlasting battery! (Spent 2 weeks trying to make it go flat without avail!). The only problems I can see is: it is slightly too high for my hand, the forward button is slightly too far away for my thumb, and it needs to be used on the right surface not like a carpet or sofa like my optical mouse before. This Laser mouse is great and I would definitely recommend though I think the Microsoft 5000 (6000?) and Logitech's own new MX mouse may be even better :)
