I always realised he was a good guitarist but because these early recordings are not cluttered with (superb) session men - here is a change to hear his complex guitar backing & occasional harmonica. I cannot decide whether his greatest influence was Blind Blake or Lonnie Johnson (the most sophisticated & advanced blues guitarists ever?) but he shows he's capable of playing like both. No self-penned stuff - but oldies as you'd expect. It is a mystery to me why he's never taken off in a big way in the UK. Magic!
