Well I guess I'm a fan of Meurkens so obviously I'm going to like it. It's his tone and choice of material and really it's a question of comparing Chromatic harmonica players like Larry Adler, Toots Thielemans and Meurkens especially as Adler and Meurkens are 'tongue blockers' and Toots was not. Understanding how much vibrato and the requirements of the contemporary jazz sound is also the issue. I love all three of course and all three are different. You get this precision and fluidity in Meurkens when you listen to it though to be fair Adler was actually a classical player not jazz despite the forays. I wasn't aware when I bought it that singing was involved but that was about making an authentic Brazilian album I think. Stv
