    Tabletop manual coil winder

    Very good quality and well made: a solid heavy duty piece of machinery. This unit is also a joy to use. I have never used one before and in no time at all I was winding very neat coils, very quickly. You really feel you have good control of the wind. I could have done with a selection of washer sizes to hold a variety of diameter cores. It comes with a couple of small cone shaped washers and I ended up using the end caps off a spool of wire to hold a larger diameter tube. A great unit.

    Good bad coil winder

    This item is typical of its origin, however I am not knocking that, as you get what you pay for. For occasional use this item will suffice, if you want to use it all day every day then either get something better or be prepared to make some adjustments, Adjustments. Grind the base flat for stability, attach coil holder, depending on the type of coil to be wound the 8:1 ration is not smooth and can cause very lumpy operation, probably through mis mesh of the gears and binding of the drive shafts. All in all its value for money if you don't mind spending a couple of hours making it better.

    Useful Coil Winder

    A very simple piece of kit, but once you have mounted it on a board, together with a feed spool holder and distance pulley, it does a good job of winding a basic coil. I used it to re-wind a loudspeaker field coil and although the tapered plugs supplied with it were not large enough for the hole in the former, I found some bits from a washing machine transit screw set which fitted and did the job. A great piece of equipment for any DIY electronics enthusiast.

    A good basic non expensive coil winding machine.

    Rough casting surface but all gears, shafts are well finished and fit accurately into their support points. It runs smoothly and the counter can count backwards so OK for removing turns in repairs or modifications to transformers or coils. Oiling points are provided for all bearing holes and the unit can be used with a motor as a pulley wheel is incorporated. Provides a good foundation to add DIY extras such as winding wire support/tension or a motor.

    Great for intended purpose. Guitar coil winders check this:- Apart from the obvious need to adapt the main shaft to suit pickup bobbins, it is very snatchy on the 8x speed, as the gears are not particularly smooth, so it breaks the 42 and 43 AWG wire all the time. 8000 turns at 1:1 ratio is a no no as far as I am concerned, so I motorised it, direct driving the shaft with a band and pulley system and only using the gears for driving the counter. It works really well with a 12v motor, speed control and foot switch. Definitely better than building from scratch. Really good value for money.
