Rather than a harrowing account of a genuine atrocity Massacre At My Lai Four plays like an episode of the TV series Tour Of Duty, only with a little more gore and rape. While there is no major American film on these actual events, both Oliver Stone’s Platoon and especially Brian DePalma’s brilliant Casualties Of War cover this sort of ground far more effectively. Indeed I would question if any dramatic film could really do the true story justice, it seems like the sort of ground that only a sober documentary could really grapple with. If you really want to find out about the events of My Lai you would be better served reading the Wikipedia entry than watching this.
