Great start for hifi! They are happy with Audio Bullies, Iron Maiden or Beethoven. They like to be driven hard or slow. They are very versatile speakers. Some could say they are warm and soft. Why not. Your ears will definitely appreciate. I used them with Myryad amplification to my greatest pleasure for the last years. I also use then to watch blu rays. No need of sub. They got plenty of bass that you can adjust by playing with the distance to the rear wall. If you doubt, give them a try, you will fall in love. :-)

I actually heard these at a customers house while doing a bit of plumbing but they were the M74 not the 74I which are an upgrade. Ive heard quite a few different makes of speakers on my travels but these caught my ear. The M74Is are crystal clear and you can hear all the instruments with out being over run by to much bass, I have them connected to a Cambridge one micro unit and to be fair they go together really well considering its only 25w per channel.I had the Sirroco S30 bookshelf speakers before they were pretty good but dont compare to these, so they were a fantasic buy for me and would reccomend them to match up with any amp from 25w-150w my only gripe would be they are beech finnish and not oak but they still look good
I bought these m74s 10years ago after lots of online research, hifi mag review reading, and listening to many main speakers. They need a powerful amp to drive them well, and as they're slightly warm I would pair them with an amp thats not too warm unless you want to wallow and lose some definition - I have a sony amp thats a little bright and punchy (great for movies). Still sound awesome and with their size, the bass is great too and because of this I saved myself a few hundred as I never got the subwoofer I was going to buy. You can even turn them right down so you can barely hear them sitting with you ear up against them, and the sound is clear and not drowned out by humm or 'messy'. Nowadays they're a good bargain, though heavy to transport, and if buying new, technology has moved on again.Read full review
Very pleased with the speakers. Sound quality absolutely brilliant. My wife doesn't like the beech colour so will probably stain them to match the dark oak furniture. I've also got Bose Accoustimass 5's, which will go in a different room after Christmas, but the bass tone on the Missions seems a lot more mellow than the Bose, which are still good speakers. All in all very pleased with the purchase which sounds well with my Technics gear.
I would not recommend these speakers to people that are not so fussed about the quality of sound, but if you do like your jazz or classical music and you have the amplifier to move these speakers the results are incredible even at low volume. Great design and still fashionable after so many years, great stuff to have.
