My mother had a Halma set and I remember playing it as a child but none of my friends recognise the name or my description of how the game is played so I was keen to acquire a set so I could show them. I chose this version because some of the vintage sets on ebay have pieces missing while the "1972" sets have plastic pieces instead of wood. There is a mistake in the printing of the board in that the larger "yards" marked out by "hedges" instead of "walls" should be in diagonally opposite corners instead of adjacent ones. It is easy to allow for this when playing so it does not spoil the game. The mistake is visible (but not obvious) on the illustration of the item on ebay and it is possible that the vendor is unaware of the mistake so this is not a criticism of them. The enclosed instructions were an adequate reminder of how the game is played.Read full review

1. The board layout is simply wrong; the opposing sides for two players should be diagonally opposite not adjacent. So there is no green safety line in the right place. Every image of Halma boards that I have seen online have the single yards diagonally opposite and never adjacent. 2. The instructions contain fundamental errors such as saying that for four players two have 13 pieces and two have 19 when clearly all four should have 13. Only when the game is played with two players do they have 19 men. 3. One of the wooden parts is faulty, the "man" has no head! - poor quality control checking My wife for whom this was a birthday present is very disappointed as she remembers playing the game as a child in the 1950's and this game is just not correctly made. We looked for a traditional version of the game and are disappointed in this product.Read full review
