With the one I received the lock chamber only slides half way along the toothed strip before jamming - so is not any good for locking sliding glass doors fully shut but I may have just got a faulty one. The way the mechanism fits to glass is by 2 little screws that are inside 2 plastic 'shoes'. You screw the screws against the glass and the 'shoes' stop the screws digging into the glass. It wouldn't stop a determined attempt to open the door (as the 'shoes' slide along the glass) but it works well enough to stop someone trying to open the doors unseen or to stop children.
