Very compact and lightweight, ideal for travel for the odd use of flash. With a gn of 40 it's not the most powerful flash in my kit, but it fills the requirement for everyday casual use. Build is fair to good, the compensation dial/manual setting dial is easily moved by accident, the mode dial being smaller is more secure. All it needs is a quick check when you take it out of whatever bag you use. The supplied case gives good protection, but defeats the "compact" idea, a bit bulkier than I would like. Coverage is good, even using a 24mm lens, the flash comes with a soft box attachment, fitted diffuser panel that tucks away easily, and a fill-in reflector neatly housed on top of the head. This is also easily moved, a polite way of saying it's a bit slack! All work as intended with no problems. I tried multi flash on a D610 and easily got to ten evenly exposed shots, I have'nt tried to find the max number of flashes per new set of AA batteries in continuous mode, I would imagine 10 is sufficient for most users. Video light is ok for fairly close shots, quite good for macro as well. Instructions are only available on-line, I found a review that pointed me in the right direction for HSS mode, have'nt used it yet. The enclosed "Quick manual" is adequate for anybody who has used a separate flash before. The slave functions work well, I even got a well balanced wide angle shot using a compact camera as master and the i40 as slave set to the digital slave mode. As a carry-anywhere flash I would recommend the i40, it's a lot smaller than my hammerhead and other guns!Read full review

Don't let the size deceive you: this might be a small flashgun but it's powerful and packed with decent number of features. It has a Guiding Number of 27@100 ISO and 35mm of zoom, which is quite good as compares with much larger units. The 4 AA batteries add some weight (320g ready to go) but enable fast recycling times. It has i-TTL (with +/- 2EV compensation), Manual (up to 1/256 power), remote IR i-TTL (slave only), and manual slave modes. It also has a LED adjustable video light (with low power, being the weakest point of the model). It misses radio control option and, above all, the ability of being a master flash but that might be just to much for both size and price point.

I got it mainly for macro photography because its lightweight and very adjustable for off-camera use. The TTL control works well and the built-in reflector, wide angle adaptor and softbox are useful/
