Onkyo have a good reputation, so i bought this new, unused at a bargain price. It's chunky and black, which i like, though some come with a more stylish look. It does all it says and i use hi-fi speakers as i bought it mainly for surround sound on live music DVD's and Blu Ray. It plays FLAC files from a USB stick as well. It's not a dedicated music player, but i can't afford the real deal. Having said that, it plays music rather nicely, so i don't get too much of that "wish i'd got the 5009 model" blues. Dislikes are that the Dolby and DTS indicators are tiny, so seeing a nice big DTS-HD Master Audio display isn't on the cards. There are no 5.1 phono inputs either, which is a shame as my Pioneer SACD/DVD-A player is redundant. My Sony Blu Ray player does SACD through HDMI, so all is not lost. I just have to use the DTS-HD MA layer off my DVD-A discs for now. I can only compare it to my previous Philips pre HDMI surround player, but as that didn't play back anything better than 24/48 files through it's 5.1 phono inputs it is an unfair comparison. It is definitely better though. I used the same speakers on both and music i am familiar with. To be fair, Marantz, Sony and Denon also make very well reviewed recievers at this price, but i am very happy with the money i have spent. Next stop is the 519 :-)Read full review
