I was not sure this item was new or old stock, it seems very flimsy not solid, that might be me with my clumsy fingers, now I see it is just me, the product is good it works fine does what it says, I am happy, thank you.

I have a few different head cleaning tapes over the years. This one was the cheapest on eBay and I would pay a bit extra next time in the hope of getting a better quality unit. The tape played through once and than needed to be rewound by hand luckily because the tape is so short this only takes a minute or so. After three passes it did clean the heads and the video player and it worked as expected.

I got this because of the overall good reviews. However, for me, the item did not work properly and has stopped my VCR from working. The build quality is awful. The screw-top lid of the liquid was cracked when I got it. When I followed the instructions and put a few drops of the liquid in the red hole and put the VHS in my VCR, it would not play. I pressed play and the VCR (which works fine and plays all my VHS tapes, but is a few years old now) did not play or FFWD or RWD. I ejected the VHS head cleaner and tried again. This time it felt like it did play for a bit (about 10 seconds) then stopped again. When I ejected it this time I could see the tape was caught in the VCR and it was kinked where was it caught. Also, there were a lot of black marks across the tape. The tape is like a rough/stiff paper material. And looking underneath I can see one of the cogs is misaligned and gets trapped/stuck if moved off centre. I tried to play one of my VHS tapes and now I can only hear the audio and get no video at all any more. I just get a black screen with fuzzy white horizontal lines, but I do get audio. Whereas I used to be able to watch my VHS tapes (even just yesterday), now I can't. It's almost as if it's stripped my VCR heads. This thing has ruined my VCR. Worst £3.99 I ever spent. I was hoping to convert my old VHS tapes to DVD and after checking a few of them (which played fine but were slightly fuzzy along the bottom of the image) I decided to get a VHS head cleaner to make the image better. Now I have no image at all. I now have to get my VCR repaired, which will cost me over a hundred pounds I reckon. I wish I had never bought it. I feel sick about it now.Read full review

This VHS head cleaner is absolutely rubbish! It says you can use it dry or wet, so I initially went to use it as a dry VHS cleaner, but the tap was so short and flimsy that it caught up in the VHS heads. My video was working fine before I used it, but after using the tap cleaner in a dry mode it didn’t work. I had to take it to an audio company to get it fixed and all they did was remove the cleaning tape, put one of their own in to clean the heads and now my video is working fine! Don’t buy this!

Prior to purchase I had read some positive and negative reviews for this product. I suspect it might work well in some VCRs. Sadly not my trusty 6 head Sharp VCR which had been working fine to date. Having read the instructions of the cleaner in full, I loaded it to my VCR and it would not play. However, more seriously than that, it would not eject. The VCR had to be dismantled to remove it however it had already done terminal damage to the VCR by this point and after many years of service it is now destined for the skip. Very disappointing. I can only recommend that you use this product at your peril, it might work but it might destroy your VCR. You have been warned!
