A step up from the last Operation Flashpoint. Not a battlefied or cod type game, more of an Americas Army on steroids, pretty fun guns can be customized a little after each mission and fight you earn points to unlock the gear. Too much cusing tho, its really not needed and takes away from the game a bit, soldiers cuss but the dialogue was written by an street junky I think. Good game, graphics, gameplay fun, not the most realistic but enjoyed the strategy and is the closest game to an afgahn us marine warefare.
As a former Infantry Marine, I like to check out the few games that are Marine oriented. I'd heard this game was built around the fireteam, and was hoping that the team commands from Close Combat: First to Fight would be incorporated in this game. Surprisingly, there are very similar team commands, but using them while under fire will take more practice. Where CC:F2F followed the rigid fireteam structure that was common when I served, Red River has a more dynamic structure and more uncommon weapons than the average grunt Marine has access to. More realistic is the dialogue, and this is where KIDS SHOULD NOT BE EXPOSED TO THIS GAME!!! Marines talk dirty, and this game sounds like real grunts wrote the script! You do NOT want your kids repeating this stuff, so don't play it with them around. I feel this game represents fairly well some of the realities of warfare, like not being able to see targets clearly, not being able to tell where incoming fire is coming from, ambiguous orders, etc. In real life, it's hard to see a man clearly 2-300m, and it's hard to put your front sight post on him and get a hit. That's why The Corps spent so much money on ACOG's! In real life, the direction of gunfire can be hard to pick out when everyone is firing, but tracers work both ways. No combat leader has time to spell out everything he wants, and threaten or insult you at the same time, so most of the orders you get are rather broad. Figure it out. Played the original game on the PC and was incredibly satisfied on how the game worked got it for the 360 and enjoying the graphics and a couple different details. I won't go into much but the game isn't like COD or BF - call of duty , battlefield in case you don't know the abbreviations. The game has more of a tactical feel too it and at times you feel like your actually there the only downside of it which is hardly noticeable are the trips and the walking distances but that's about it. It has a leveling system but it doesn't go on forever the game play really makes it worth it though recommended for any tactical shooter player.
I love this game because it has: - realistic story taking place in Tajikistan (but not some fictional Takistan or Chernarus like in Arma) - realistic live characters with like St. Sarge Knoks with his humour making the gameplay even more real looking - available upgrades, unlocks for weapons and your character - good graphics (after you once update the game online) - good physics - high quality realistic sounds and sound effects (something that Arma series still cannot acheive) - special effects like explosions and bullet hits looking very much like in action movies - tactical close combat options
