I saved up hard for this machine to replace my old PS3. Apparently after searching the web for details on BluRay I found that this Oppo machine is regarded as one of the best players on the market. In comparison charts I saw it at the top of the list with the PS3 at 4th place. Anyway, I ordered it and when it arrived just the packaging is enough to make your jaw drop. The box opens up to show a full colour glossy inlay showing the player. Remove this and you find black foam packaging surrounding a black clad machine. When you take this out of the packaging you find the player is actually inside a reusable black Oppo hessian bag. Very nice. Oh, and don't forget the silver embossed box holding the power lead and accessories. So, I connected this up using both HDMI leads, one going straight to the plasma screen so there would be no other processing (after all, what's the point of having such a powerful video processor if it goes into an AV amp and get's reworked?, which is why they give this option), the other HDMI going to the Receiver. Set Up is a doddle, taking a couple of minutes following the on screen easy set up wizard. I only tweaked a few things later. The picture is astonishing. Even your old DVD's will look stunning, almost to the point when you wonder why your buying BluRays...until of course you see what it does with BluRay. But it doesn't stop there. I then put a CD in...superb. But what about my old SACD's that you used to ned a dedicated player for with separate phono leads? This is the first tweak I made. i had to set up the player to make SACD send as a DEA signal (I think) and that was that. Absolutely stunning sound. I thought I would finish my test with an MP3 compilation disc...no issues. This player boasts that it will practically play anything you put in it, and I believe it! I did buy a full multi region version, but I really only wanted the feature for DVD as I will probably stick to Region B for my Blu's. If you are looking for what could be the greatest player on the market right now, this has to be a contender.Read full review
I am amazed how good this player is. I only use the digital output into a pair of Meridian DSP 5000 speakers. The audio reproduction is as good as my old player (£3300,00) which was my prime purpose for purchasing this unit. I have now discovered how good the BluRay playback is as well. A great all round low cost machine.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
1st dedicated BluRay player and it boots very quickly. Remote control is nice and chunky with illuminated keys. I've connected it to my network and I've streamed video files from my server without issue. Most file types were read OK, a few files were not listed which I took to mean that it could not understand the format/code. The player is a joy to use. The video and audio performance is excellent. I have connected it to an Amplifier that can decode the HD BluRay audio formats and the sounds is truly excellent. I can only compare this to a BluRay content played through a HTPC and it provides far superior audio and video playback for all BluRay and DVD discs. The HTPC was, however, better able to decode some multi channel AAC codecs better in MP4/DivX files.
Quel dommage il n'est qu'en noir. Quelle manie ont les gens de croire que le noir est ce qui se fait de mieux. Dommage le silver n existe pas
I knew this was a really good player before I bought it. My confidence was not misplaced. Brilliant performance on up sampled DVDs with clarity and colour verging on HD quality. Blu Ray is everything I hoped for easily bettering satellite HD. Very satisfied and I have no hesitation in recommending this player.
