AWESOME CASE!
This Otterbox is my second on this phone, with the first one taking a hit and protecting my Samsung Galaxy S4 ACTIVE, by cracking on one corner, weakening the basic structure. I chose this one, because it looked great, and I was not disappointed. It now appears I have a brand new phone. It is gorgeous. I LOVE IT! Worst Otterbox That I've Owned...
I LOVE Otterbox. But, not the Preserver Waterproof Case. Two issues. First, the integrated screen protector adheres partially to the phone's glass surface. You can find a lot of "solutions" to this problem if you Google it. But, I found that the only solution that really worked was misting baby powder on the inside of the case. Otterbox provides instructions to do this on their web site. Ridiculous. Second, you HAVE to use the speakerphone or an external headset (wired or bluetooth) to make calls with the case on. The waterproof fabric that covers the ear piece buzzes annoyingly when someone is talking. Worse, the internal microphone is unusable when the phone is held to your ear. Removing the rubber piece covering the microphone and USB port doesn't improve the situation. I would have been okay if that worked because the rubber piece is easily removed and reinstalled. So, the case can't be used for daily use unless you are one of those "bluetooth headset in the ear all of the time" types (I'm not). And, it isn't great for special-purpose use because you have to choose between doing the baby powder thing or having the screen puddling distraction.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Form or Function?
I ordered this case not knowing this was the format. I have been used to wrap-around and not encased phone protectors. It arrived as a surprise! No question...it is well priced for what it gives and its construction is excellent, providing full protection for your device. It even came with a belt clip...and could have cost quite a bit more considering that some stores sell cases for upward of twenty or thirty dollars. Yet I had to give it up. I ordered it for my Samsung S4 which outperforms the more recent models for reliability.... but I found this case bulky and dysfunctional. It is so large that I cannot enjoy any of the slimness and sleekness which I , as a designer, enjoy in holding the camera in my hand. But if this is a sacrifice for complete protection of the device, I could well go with that. The main problem is that it renders two of my function keys at the bottom of the phone completely inoperable while it is attached. Even after creatively cutting away some of the plastic encasing, these keys still would not respond, so in the long run, in order to enjoy my phone to its fullest, I had to remove it. I am now using just the inner plastic skeleton, cutting away parts of it. The outer rubber case is of no use to me. I will just have to discard it and seek another style of case. I assume that this bulky, but well designed and really protective case is not for the Galaxy S4!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Disappointed with the OtterBox Preserver
The light gray color ear piece and speakers are constructed out of some mesh type, metallic material which causes the sound to be very tinny. Also, not seen by the picture, are two rubber covers. One for the headphone port and the other for the charging port.. They both work very well for protection but they tend to pop-out easily. I have already lost them twice but decided to just remove both of them which defeats the purpose of having them for water protection. I have not tested it for water protection because I am not wanting to submerge my phone.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Wouldn't recommend it
Within the first 24 hours the speaker and microphone covers came off, and was from normal use. In and out of my pocket an average amount of time during 24 hours. Wasn't being used as a business phone. Just a personal phone. Seems to be durable and won't easily come back apart once it's back together wich is a good thing. Overall I like it but would have liked the covers that make it waterproof to last longer than a day. I would have bought a different case and saved money if I had known the case would be worthless as a waterproof case. If you need a waterproof case I suggest looking elsewhere. Microphone issue
I had high hopes for this case. It came on time, looked great, and seemed to offer solid protection. Then I made a phone call on it. The person I called couldn't understand me - said it sounded like I was talking through a comb covered with tissue paper. I tried opening the bottom power port rubber cover like I read about in another review, but it didn't make much difference. I had to remove the case completely to be clearly understood. The waterproof cover affects the microphone and speaker
This case is waterproof, which means it also restricts air movement. There is a bottom plug that covers the microphone and power port, and when it is closed, people have a lot of trouble hearing me. I can workaround this by opening the cover and holding it out of the way when I talk, but that is annoying. The waterproof speaker cover is a little buzzy too, but I can live with that. If you don't need the extra water protection of the Otterbox Preserver, the Defender is a better choice.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great protections but it's ugly and bulky
I set up. Otter box defender cases are not attractive. I would estimate that it doubles the weight of the phone and cases are in no way stylish. Having said that, I drop phones all the time because of a spinal cord injury. These kind of cases save me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. This is the best protection for the wait. I just wish they would come up with a better looking design. Something A little less bulky . And who would ever use the belt clip with this? Protects the phone, worst call quality
The case works great to protect the phone and control the screen. The bad: really have to press the buttons hard and on phone calls the echo is unbearable for most people you're talking to.
