putoline chain wax
The best way to lubricate bike chains as long as they are not the modern O-ring type. Only use this wax on moto cross and enduro bike chains and older classic non O-ring bike chains. Boil your chain
When it’s time to adjust your chain, remove it, clean it thoroughly with a wire brush and solvent, and dry overnight. Melt the can of Putoline (a space heater works great), and watch the bubbles rise as the graphited wax fills the spaces around the pins. Lift the chain allowing the excess to drain back into the can. When it cools, roll it up and put it in a padded mailer. I like to do two or more at a time so there is always a replacement ready.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Old-fashioned chain care
A health spa treat for an old-fashioned non-O Ring chain. Ah, how it takes me back to the good old days. You remove chain and wash in petrol or paraffin. Wipe it dry, put a piece of wire or string through the end, fold up and place on the wax, bring the wax to the boil - I use an old camping stove - and the chain sinks from view. Cook it for a few minutes and the lube penetrates the chain's innermost areas. Fish it out with the wire or string and hang it above the tin - most of the molten wax dribles back so you can repeat the process again and again. More fiddly than using a spray can but somehow very satisfying if you have the time and your chain will love you for taking the time. Is it good value? The best way to lubricate a non-O ring chain and bound to extend service life but many people would simply fork out for a new chain. Your choice.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
