I use this telephone as a remote extension 200 miles from the Versatility exchange. It is loud and clear using the handset and reasonably easy to use. You do need to read the instructions though, it is not entirely obvious from the controls. It is now good value, being second hand and not in great demand. As far as I can determine it is NOT a standard VOIP telephone it is a VOBTP (Voice over British Telecom Protocol) handset i.e. noe-standard. That being said it works fine plugged into a standard domestic router, probably anywhere on earth with reasonable Internet. The power must arrive as Power over ethernet but it does not need the BT power supply for that; 48v POE of any flavour works. It permits a single ethernet to serve both the telephone and the nearby computer i.e. there is ethernet in and ethernet out to the computer. It does have a bad habit though. If, for some reason, the exchange is not accessible, it reboots frequently. Each time it does, it disconnects the connected computer from the Internet. Sometimes the phone locks up and has to be rebooted. If you wish to use a headset, a standard combined headphones + mic will never work because the mic and phone share an earth. You can construct your own with separate headset and mic - I have done that and they work fine. You can also buy (at considerably more than a computer headset+mic) specialist headsets for the phone. Despite some tricky things, all in all I am pleased with this phone.Read full review
