Where can you start with Porcupine Tree's Recordings. There was a particular era where this excellent band made songs you just want to play over and over again. Between albums STUPID DREAM and the magnificent LIGHTBULB SUN, an array of singles from these albums had unreleased songs on the formats of 7" vinyl and C.D. singles. For fans that never got round to buying the singles, RECORDINGS was released containing all songs as well as songs recorded during the album sessions. Although limited to (I think) 30,000 copies, Songs like BUYING NEW SOUL had become firm favorites with fans and an extended version of EVEN LESS from STUPID DREAM being the icing on the cake. On SD, EVEN LESS is just over 7 minutes but on RECORDINGS you have a 14 minute version thats just breath-taking. This collection of songs is just as fantastic as any album a band can make and doesn't even come across as left overs or fillers that were simply dismissed. In fact RECORDINGS is sort after so much by an ever growing fan base that it's getting re-released officially late 2008 / early 2009 so that the fans missing out on this awesome collection of songs can finally own themselves a gem. Although in my eyes PORCUPINE TREE can do no wrong, these songs in a mishmash of prog rock, 60's/70's style singer/songwriter and acoustic soul and ambient sounds as magnificent now as it will in the next 50 years. Song writing this good going un-noticed is a crime, so either you wait for the re-release or hunt the original limited release, your cd collection is screaming out for this masterpiece like Amy Winehouse getting access to a plantation in Columbia. Beg, borrow, steal or just plain perchase, treat thy self to RECORDINGS... and then buy EVERYTHING ELSE by this band, who quite literally, can do no wrong!Read full review
Its seems this CD has become a cult addition to any serious Porcupine fans collection. I've followed and bid on this disc many a time only for it to go above my price range or be not the quality I look for..... But this time I got luck and I'm waiting for it to arrive and take its place between Lightbulb Sun and Stars Die in my collection Steve
