This is a well made and very useful tool - all guitarists should have one. It allows you to check whether your frets on the instrument are level or not. This is vitally important on any fretted instrument, because uneven frets can cause a few problems, such as not being able to get the intonation right, notes choking off when bending strings, fret buzz etc. Very simple to use by simply laying it across three adjacent frets, if it rocks you know that the middle fret is higher than the other two, and you can then mark that fret for levelling. If you are not able to do your own fret work, then take the guitar to a local music store, luthier etc to have the work done. If anyone lives in or near to Sheffield, South Yorkshire, I can offer my services with guitar setups including fret levelling, crowning, dressing etc, for very reasonable rates. Please get in touch if you would like me to get your guitar playing the best that it possibly can. mel_h1959Read full review

The faces are not perfectly level. This may have been cut out accurately with a laser, and the sides may all be a specified length, but the functionality of it as a Fret Rocker is quite bad as the sides are not perfectlly level. After holding each face against a machined block of steel you can see little gaps in different places. If I use this perfectly machined block to test my Stew-Mac Fret Rocker, there are no gaps. I was trying to find a cheaper alternative to having to buy a 2nd Stew-Mac one, but I guess you do get what you pay for. I am an ex-metal worker (time served Plater/Fabricator) and now for almost the last 9 years ive been doing guitar repairs. So I do have a lot of experience in determining what is level and what is not level. The Fret Rockers have a lot of fine tooling marks on every face. If you would like some close up photo just ask. It seemed too good to be true and it was.Read full review

Thanks for your review. Just for the record you purchased this item on 15 of June. You never contacted me re any issues. You have not contacted me about any problems. So why now????? I have had another negative response from another customer who is a "Time Served Metal Worker" Saying much the same. The "Fret Rockers" are laser cut to an exact tolerance. Through the laser cutting there is always a burr and a lead-in tab on the back face, these I remove with a cold file. The flatness is then re-checked in a ceramic plate. I am aware of the light marking caused by the file but this in no way alters the working of the product. While I will Accept, in good faith, either positive or negative feedback, however, I expect people to offer me the opportunity to address any issues first. It is good maners.Read full review

Such a simple idea but it works well and is incredibly easy to use. The gauge of the steel is such that I'm sure it's very unlikely that it would ever distort unless it was grossly misused. At this price all fretted instrument players should have one of these in their back pocket.

My fret rocker arrived 2 weeks later, all the way to Australia. It's the perfect tool you need to help fix those dead spots. It's very well made and should last you a lifetime. Those people who complained about the minor superficial scratches, remember it's a working tool, it's not a piece of jewelry you wear. I will definitely buy a second one as a backup. Keep up the good work !!!
