Brilliant debut release from one of the finest bands to come from the Manchester area (Failsworth) so glad I got to see them

Personally speaking this is my favourie of all Puressence's long players. In fact this whole era of their work is truly fantastic. The musicianship, songwriting, vocal performance, production, lyrics and direction are very realised.I happened to see the band around four or five times at this point in their career and they never failed to deliver. As a musician myself it had a significant impact on me at the time and still does to this day.Highlights for me are the foggy goth landscape's of 'Near Distance',the angst ridden emotional intesity of 'I Suppose', the Cocteaus/Cure/Chameleonesque 'Mr Brown', the streetwise Mancunian Phrygian drones of 'India' and the desolation of 'Only Tryin To Twist Your Arm'. To be honest there's not a bad track on this album, if you like intelligent guitar work that draws on beautiful textures, soaring emotional vocals and a tight moody rhythm section you need this album!Read full review
