Great value - will easily do for Mk 1 Spitfire

I bought this primarily to make as a Mk 1 Spitfire - exactly the same except for a more powerful engine. This was the Spitfire that starred in the Battle of Britain - it requires a slightly different paint scheme - Brown/green camouflage, duck egg green underside & black spinner. This is a perfectly serviceable model - good cockpit detail & exceptional value. Decals for only one version - unusual these days & No pilot figure, but can't complain at this price.

Nice enough but there are better

Nice enough model if the Mk.II Spitfire, easy to assemble and fairly accurate. The main issue for me is that panel lines are in relief, so it is really difficult to get any sense of detail with the washes I normally use. Cockpit detail is OK, nothing spectacular. Tyres are basic. Undercarriage legs and doors are clever in that there is only one correct way of putting them in, but then they are so loose it is difficult to get them at the right angles. The decals for seat straps work surprisingly well at a distance. The decals don’t have the amount of stencils you might expect at 1/48. I would have liked the gun ports to have been modelled and not just represented with decals. BUT balanced against all this is the very low price and if you’re not too bothered about the finish it is very easy to assemble.

  • Cheap and cheerful 😊

All in all a good kit. I am using it as a gaming piece for bolt action. It doesn't come with a pilot or stand so I had to make 2 extra purchases. For the price this was to be expected though. It won't satisfy serious modellers but is good for the purpose I bought it for.

  • Spitfire (Revell)

I have built quite a few 1/45 scale spitfires over the years Aitfix, tamiya,Eduard, but this one has to be the most basic. I did spend most of the build scribing panel lines and practicing scratch build of parts.looks ok with plenty of effort and I did feel quite pleased with the end result . Would I build one again? Probably not. Not unless I needed some practice on a certain skill. Great for a beginner though.

  • No pilot?

I built this for my young grandson, whose first question was, "where's the pilot"? Apart from the missing pilot, the model was well made. Some day perhaps, aircraft model manufacturers will go back to supplying a stand so that aircraft can be display as though they are flying.

  • Simple kit that doesn't fit

Bought as a project for my 9 Yr old son during lock down. Should have been a simple to build starter kit, but it required a lot of fettling to get it to fit together properly. Nothing fitted positively, and much sanding and filling was needed to get it to go together. Why have a starter kit that needs an experienced modeller to construct? Won't be buying Revell kits in future.

  • Revell Spitfire Model

This item wasn't worth £10,some of the parts didn't fit properly or make sense of what the plane was like, it ended up in the bin, very disappointing.

  • 1/72 Spitfire model kit

Being a plastic kit durability is not an option, although it is a decent reproduction and fairly well detailed for it's size. I am planning to move on to larger scale kits in the future.

  • Not good value

This kit is a 1990s tooling and is poor for even then. With a skilled model maker the kit will make up to a reasonably model but it is about the poorest 1/48 spitfire on the market today. AVOID

  • Model Spitfire.

A nice kit if your building a Spitfire!
