Earlly 70s rock documentary of fascinating musician
Tony Palmer who did a lot of TV documentaries on both rock and opera/classical subjects is probably best known for his film on Cream at the time of their farewell concert. This film of Rory Gallagher's Irish Tour in late 1973/early1974 while nice to have suffers from bad audio when the music is not playing. So you often struggle to hear what is being said plus Rory does not seem that keen on being interviewed and is most at home when he is discussing blues music and playing styles and guitars. The workmanlike style of life on the road and popular songs being performed is well captured.The real gem is the Commentary track added for the DVD release which is Gerry McAvoy Rory's long serving bass player and another person who I assume to be Donal Gallagher,, Rory's surviving brother and ...
