I bought this double CD because I've often enjoyed hearing the buskers (albeit briefly) in the London Tube Stations while en route somewhere. Although not actually recorded in the Tube Station environment, these two CDs are nevertheless an opportunity to be able to spend some time actually LISTENING to a range of London-based buskers. By and large, this is a good showcase for the talents of the around-20 identified artists who give their own interpretations of 30 songs that we (as you might expect) already know and - mostly - love. The buskers' voices are generally very good, (you're looking in the wrong places, Mr Cowell!) and clearly recorded, and the song interpretations vary from the predictable to the very interesting, with only one that I would describe as eccentric ("Streets of London", where the artist and music seem to be working from different scores!). Particularly good are Hadar Manor's version of "I'll be Your Baby Tonight", and Rachel M's "You've Got A Friend" while from the male artists, I particularly liked Miguel Angel Cortez's very-different version of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters". The only weak part of an otherwise-enjoyable package are the song notes, where, against a number of tracks, the writer drifts off into brief superficial musings of his own, and totally fails to identify the artist(s) who is/are acually singing the song! (What were you thinking, guy??) Nevertheless, I'd still recommend that you pick up a copy of this CD if you can get hold of one, but BEWARE; it seems that Linkin Park (who they??!) have now released a CD of the same name, so make sure you don't buy the wrong one!Read full review
