The Sebo X1.1 is a classic design which has been around for longer than I can remember. My previous Sebo, the X1, lasted for something like 15 years before the motor finally packed up. During its lifetime the only repairs it needed were replacement brushes on the motor as they do eventually wear out. I had no hesitation in buying the same model again as it is a solid and reliable vacuum cleaner. I cannot think of anything bad about it.

We had a SEBO X1 Automatic for 15 years now before lending it (and eventually selling it fairly cheaply) to a family friend who needed a reliable vacuum cleaner. In its place came the SEBO X1.1 which is an updated version of the X1 Automatic. SEBO are by far one of the best known commercial vacuum cleaner companies globally but the X1.1 is the lower model in the current X range and shouldn't be discounted just because it has a lower motor. It has been on sale in Argos as well as Comet in recent years, replaced by the bigger motor X4 model, but the X1.1 is still worth looking into. Suction on the machine is great; the vacuum design picks up every iota of dust and pet hair just like our old X1 Automatic. The difference is that the X1.1 has a higher motor than the old X1 Automatic and a stepped motor to accomodate the pet hair turbo brush on the long extension hose. This means the SEBO X1.1 will not cut out when the turbo brush is fixed to the hose. If you haven't heard of SEBO before, the X1.1 is well worth looking out for. It does everything its predecessor does, namely picking up dust and putting it into a high filtration sealed dust bag that can last up to 3 or 4 months. An auto sensor head means gliding is lighter than most uprights on the market when it comes to floor and carpets whilst a push button release on the floor head releases the roller brush to make it easier to clean. What you pay for is the electronic sensors built into the X1.1 and the general design. 4 LED lights tell you what is happening when the vacuum is switched on and if the vacuum shuts down due to a clog, once it is removed, the vacuum has no "cool down time," it simply re-activates and switches back on! A long 3 metre hose comes standard with the X1.1 but like the entire X range, the X1.1 will fall over if the hose is pulled roughly from the rear. In its defence, the wand fits into a permanently fitted handle to a wand design that gives you more reach. Two tools are supplied as standard, a long noise free crevice tool and a T shaped upholstery brush that is great at lifting fluff. The beauty of SEBO doesn't just end there. The company make cost optional cleaning tools if you need anything more, including a triangular dusting brush that is worth the extra additional cost if you vacuum up constant dust and of course, the pet hair turbo brush which this model can take. Cost wise the X1.1 is fairly cheap to maintain too thanks to a box of bags which can last up to a year and a half. Filters are also yearly replacement on average and if you own pets you can buy a charcoal filter which does a better job at retaining pet hair pong in the bag. Each bag also comes with a seal dust cap to ensure no dust leaks and unlike a bagless vac, the SEBO X1.1 never needs cleaning out unless a clog happens - and the maintenance for that is easy - since everything on this model can be chopped down to inspect by releasing hoses, or inspecting the system fairly easily. The X1.1 is worth the money if you see it. It doesn't have many weaknesses being a replacement model for the old X1 Automatic. Regardless of different colours, the one that remains to be the cheapest is the white/grey model against red or blue models. Don't feel pushed to pay for a different colour - SEBO uprights sell well on the second hand market and have a good resale factor. They are also fairly well built and can take a lot of abuse! I have had many makes of vacuum cleaner over the years including Hoover, Kirby and Oreck. For weight, ease of use, reliability and suction, I feel that SEBO make the best usable machine.
