I own the older DVD version 400 disc player too. This is a major step up from that in several respects. The internet connectivity to connect to gracenote and download auto enter title/cover art is a big improvement. With the DVD, you had to connect a PS2 keyboard and type in all info and no artwork images. The GUI interface is easy to navigate and goes well with the rest of my all Sony system. Big con: The only feature that kept this good instead of excellant. The unit has network conectivity, but no features that should come with it. The Gracenote thing is great and you can download extra movie stuff to store on a USB stick if you have intalled one in the back(this feature is not something I care about) But this unit should have support in the code to watch Netflix, Youtube, etc... Sony could and SHOULD update the code to support this as other manufacturers are doing. Maybe someday they will. The connection is there. All they need to do is program it.Read full review
This is not a great or excellent product. It does what it should but it is far from what is advertised. The Cons... First, it is a very slow performer, especially when using Blu-Rays. It will eventually get going, but patience is a must. Second, there are some annoying "clicks" that sometimes makes you wonder if the unit is breaking something inside. Third, a thumb drive is mandatory, especially for retaining the menu's memory. Fourth, the unit's original Blu-ray laser WILL go out. The DVD laser keeps on working; yes there are two lasers in this and all multi-purpose Blu-Ray players. It is about a $250.00 repair that cannot be avoided. Fifth, this item is worth USED only about $300.00 to $400.00; and that is only if it is in Like New condition. So, don't get taken in. The MSRP on this particular player is only $800.00. There is another unit, the BDP CX7000es. It was suppose to be a better player, but I have a friend that has one and I see no appreciable different. The Pro... It holds 400 discs which makes it a superior storage medium and despite its size does clear-up a lot of space. Yes, I am interested in buying another because I have gone a bit crazy with replacing my DVD collection with Blu-Rays. This one is almost full and I know I will need a another. Also, comparisons with other players like the Oppo is meaningless, since this is the only jukebox-type player made. Sony did make a DVD version which I also own. In some regards the DVD version is a better player.Read full review
This unit does what it was build to do: organize your DVD, Bluray, and CD collection in one place, one unit. It can store up to 400 of your disc based multimedia collection and organize it with it's own cataloging system. It has a default list of genres to choose from or you can create some of your own. It is Ethernet capable and if you have an available connection, the cataloging system will glean the disc details from Gracenote online to fill out details. You make your viewing/listening choice with this cataloging system. It is a large machine: it's about 18 inches wide, by whatever the depth of the standard audio shelf is. It can be heard through the audio cabinet door when it changes discs, but it isn't obnoxious. You really can't hear the machine during playback. I rate it highly for convenience and organization and it isn't bad to look at. I'm a Sony fan anyway (I bought it as a companion to the Sony DVP-CX995v!) However, I can complain a little bit about the amount of time it takes to spin up a disc. And the manual process of loading your collection into the player is slow and tedious, but once it's done, you're done ... except for any new discs you acquire. All in all, it's a fine machine for getting your bookshelves cleared of all those DVD, Bluray and CD cases. It is unfortunate that Sony (nor anyone else I think) make a Mega Changer such as this. If you can find one in good shape, I highly recommend getting it.Read full review

As an audio/videophile, I have to say that this product is relatively mediocre in performance. I purchased a brand new one on eBay three years ago, so I have a lot of experience with it. First off, the only reason for anyone to ever purchase this item is because it holds a lot of discs. Otherwise, its guts are somewhat dated and its performance pales in comparison to my two Oppos. Sony isn't in the same league. Next, the device is a glitchy performer in a number of ways. First, the Gracenote index feature is virtually useless unless all you are watching or listening to are mainstream films and videos. I listen to classical music, and the indexing is utterly useless as nothing that matters to me, even including newer BD releases of classical performances, are listed. Second of all, the all-important tracking ability (that is, ability to track heavily used and difficult tracking discs) is very poor. A brand new BD performance by John Mayer will not track in the Sony, but the Oppo is flawless. Some disks that used to track won't anymore. Unlike another reviewer, my HDMI connection does work. That other person's review should be taken in the context of this product being a glitchy performer overall. I repeat: unless you are desperate to have a changer, stay away. If you buy, be prepared for glitches and degrading performance over time. Just think, why doesn't Sony (or anyone else) make these anymore?Read full review
