The good thing about this camera apart from the carl zeiss lens is that is if you use a really strong magnet like the ones you can find in old 3 1/2 in ide hard drives and put it under the middle of the bottom of the camera it will turn on the infrared function on with all the aperture and manual operation functions without the limitations of the night shot function,eg only shoot at 30th sec at f 2.8 you can use it in infrared with an infrared filter just like you were taking normal pics,speed,aperture setting freely available,but dont try with the weaker magnets that you can use on the sony V1 camera and you can buy on ebay as it will not work, you need a really strong magnet, Like a magenet out of an old HD,this makes it a really versatile camera,and you dont need to take it apart and fit a switch like they say on some forums, just a super strong magnet and hey presto a 7.1 megapixel camera with the ability to switch to infrared a the flick of a magnet,brilliant,well impressedRead full review

I bought my first Sony V3 about ten years ago and it has given me exelent service after heavy usage until it developed a slight fault. The cost of sending it away for repair/service was high but I was so happy with this camera that I put the money towards a new one. The buttons are a bit small but you get use to them and it has all the features you will ever need. Best of all, the picture quality is superb including Macro and although it is a `bridge` camera, it now has additional lenses/filters that can be attatched.
This is my first digital camera, and a big change from old Pentax. I was not ready for the many features the camera has, and the options that there are. Digtal photograph open up a whole new field of presentation for the scientifc work I am now doing. The Sony fulfills all my coneiveable requiments. It even takes pictures in the dark.
