I am a committee member of a tiny local sports club. We were getting a lot of pressure from Government public health employees to take part in their “Sports Development” projects. Nobody could explain clearly to me what “Sports Development” meant. A kind person at Sport Northern Ireland suggested this book. The direct answer to my question of what “Sports Development” means is early on in the book and is “promoting interest, participation and performance in a sport”. The book appears to be recommended reading for anyone who is studying “Sports Development” as a career; it would be good for that. All of the participating authors seem to be connected to Leeds Metropolitan University. For the general reader, the book is full of dense sociology and management speak. Anyone in a position such ...
