There was an old film called 'Hollywood Canteen' which was the work of Bette Davis and Co to provide a free facility for servicemen during WW2 in Hollywood. The canteen provided free meals and entertainment for serving forces members. 'Stage Door Canteen' was a similar provision, but based on the East Coast of the USA. Whilst the Hollywood one may be more 'famous', chocka with USA film stars and entertainers, Stage Door has loads more with stars of both USA and UK. Lauren Bacall is the great cameo star, but the bands include Count Basie and Guy Lombardo, as well as a fab song and dance routine by Ray Bolger (the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz). If you liked the film stars and musicians of the forties, then you'd love this. Flimsy story line, but great entertainment makes it so watchable. Highly recommended.Read full review
