DS9 has evolved from "just another spin-off" from the startrek conveyor belt to the pinnacle of sci-fi writing of its time. Oh, all time, I would say. The only other contenders up there are Galactica and the priceless, funny, brilliant (and badly underrated) Firefly episodes. Series 2 is, where DS9 comes more into its own rights. Characters evolve, the series prepares for the arrival of the dominion in the story line - the red thread that will keep the series going until the grand finale 5 seasons later. The only reason not to give five out of five stars is... because it gets better still in the next seasons - four is best I think... or is it six? Choices choices!
While still a little dated compared to some of the later seasons, the second series of DS9 is destinctly more polished than the first, featuring more of that interesting mix of both drama and comedy that sets this spinoff apart from the others. The emphasis on Ferengi culture can seem a little overpowering at times, but it is this series that really paved the way for the ground breaking sci-fi episodes for which DS9 is so deservingly recognised.
In many ways much better than season one. Far too much Ferengi stuff still... but any ferengi is too much for me. More of the humour comes out in season 2 and the development of Odo in particular is interesting. Also a deeper understanding of Major Kira. Overall, a good watch.
