The 383 is not specific for Canon or Nikon, as it's brand agnostic. The flash has a GN of 120 which means at ISO100, f/8, it can reach 15 feet. The flash takes 4AA batteries or 4AA batteries and external power source to provide fast recycle time and many more flashes than just the 4AA batteries which are required for auto and fraction power performance. The flash has a swivel head, hot shoe and sync plug. The minus is it doesn't have a zoom head or TTL or high speed sync. But you can easily do hyper sync with the right trigger.

Definitely one of the best off brand ( not one of the original manufacturers ) flashes for film era cameras. It has power, well made and additional accessories that make this flash a portable pro flash. Performed flawlessly If you want to safe some money over the original camera manufacturer's model and in some cases get more features, then this is your flash.

If you can find one buy it. I've used Sunpak flashes for years (411 & 512) and never had any problems with them. I brougth the 383 a few years ago when I went back to professional photograpy and got started in digtal cameras. I use it mostly off camera along with my camera mounted Cannon 550EX when shooting on location team pictures (I'm a sports photographer)for fill light. It works great bounced of a 40" umbrella because I can vary the power from full to 1/16 giving me an fstop range of f/11 @ 11' to f/2.8 @ 40' for ISO 400. I also use it in multi light situations for the occasionl on location portrait work that I do. I would really like to find an external battery pack for it.
