Romantic and Sinister
This book is the last volume of Simon Raven's series 'Alms for Oblivion'. Many characters from the earlier books in the series reappear in it. There are at least two cunning and intricate sub-plots - worthy of Arthur Conan Doyle - and the backdrop is the romantic but decaying city of Venice, whose atmosphere is conveyed with accuracy and charm. Raven at his best.
