I have an Audio Technica LP120 turntable and I had previously used a protector to align the AT95e cart. I personally found this method tricky, and have never been 100% sure that the cart was set correctly, enter this clever little tool which will make the job much easier. If your turntable has an S shaped tonearm, such as Technics, Audio Technica etc, which have an over hang of 52mm, then this tool is a breeze to use, Set the cartridge straight in the head-shell, then line the stylus tip up with the marker on the end of the tool and that’s it, at 52mm you are set at the manufacturers recommendation for your cartridge and tonearm, Seriously, if your changing cartridges, or just want to double check your current one, save yourself sometime and buy one of these little fellows, it will most definitely make things much easier,Read full review

To get the best out of a turntable proper cartridge alignment is vital. Card protracters are fiddly to use, this simple overhang gauge makes life easy. Although I don't have a Technics turntable, I have an Audio Technica ATLP120, the arm geometry is identical so the gauge sets the cartridge up perfectly, just make sure the cartridge is perfectly straight in the headshell and line the stylus tip with the end of the gauge, job done.

I double checked with a Denon Gauge it was 52mm.. Don't expect non Technics headshells at the more budget end to line up exactly though.. Many are constructed a bit off centre.. So if you are using a Technics headshell,I would recommend it. A non Technics headshell, not so much..
